Bishop John and Sue Downs pastored Calvary Chapel for over 28 years, recently retiring from the Pastorate in January 2013. During the time of their leadership Calvary Chapel experienced steady growth. There were many notable projects that the Downs’ oversaw during their tenure as Pastor including:
. a church building program / extension that considerably increased sanctuary capacity to over 220 seats and included a three bedroom house on site for the purposes of a caretaker residence;
. building an orphanage and school in North-East india which just celebrated 20 years in January 2013.
In addition to their responsibilities at Calvary Chapel, Bishop Downs also carried many responsibilities as a leader in the United Pentecostal Church of Australia. For over 30 years, Bishop Downs has been a member of the Executive Board holding positions as Home Missions Director, Presbyter and in 2000 Bishop Downs was elected as the General Superintendent. Together with Sister Downs, they continue to travel extensively around Australia and the world encouraging the ministry of the United Pentecostal Church.
We are extremely blessed that Bishop and Sister Downs call Calvary Chapel their home! Both of them continue to be a tremendous blessing to Calvary Chapel. They have two children, Jonathan and Ruth, and are the proud grandparents of Sarah, Hannah, Lachlan, Olivia, Lucas, Jessica and Thomas
